Information On Deliveries of Medicinal Products for 2012
The State Institute for Drug Control (SUKL) provides information on deliveries of medicinal products to pharmacies, healthcare facilities and sellers of restricted drugs in 2012.
In 2012, 280.19 million packs of medicinal products were delivered to pharmacies, healthcare facilities and sellers of restricted drugs in the Czech Republic, which represents a decrease by 5.56 % in comparison with the year 2011. The number of defined daily doses in 2012 reached 5,878.34 million, which represents an increase by 1.00 % in comparison with the year 2011. The financial value of the distributed medicinal products is 58.72 billion CZK (in the prices of the entity of origin). Thus, as compared with the year 2011, the financial amount spent on medicinal products slightly decreased (merely by 0.03 %).
The table below shows the information on distribution of pharmaceuticals in DDDs, in financial terms and in the number of packs per year for the period from 2008 to 2012.

* DDD is a unit used, for example, to monitor the consumption of pharmaceuticals. It is mostly the average daily maintenance dose of a medicine administered during treatment of the given disease in adult patients.
It is apparent from the figures shown above that less packs were delivered, which, however, contained a higher number of daily defined doses. This figure may suggest that larger packs of pharmaceuticals are distributed more often. At the same time, in spite of the higher number of daily defined doses, their total financial value was lower.
Besides deliveries to healthcare facilities in the Czech Republic, distributors are also required to provide SUKL with reports on distribution to foreign countries (to other distributors or healthcare facilities). The table below shows the rank of the top ten exported medicinal products according to the number of packs delivered to pharmacies and other healthcare facilities abroad.
